Basically, the rumor today that this guy had died caused quite a stir. Gun shots, people dead, 120 injured, teargas galore. Glad I missedo out on thise one. All SIT Personnel are safe.

All:
Stacey has traveled from Kampala to the city of Poima to stay at the refugee camp. After visiting the camp, she decided it was better to stay in a local hotel that she assures me is very “American like”. The reason for not wanting to stay at the camp – the residents were begging for money.
The SIT Program is in constant contact with the students to ensure their safety. To say that countdown mode until she gets home has taken on a new meaning is a huge understatement.
Thanks to all of you for your constant support of Stacey on her adventure.

Okay, a couple corrections (sorry, mom). I’m in the city of Hoima in Western Uganda at a hotel/muslim mosque. The place is very nice and safe–not necessarily American like–but its in the middle of town right next to the bus park in case I need to jet out of here. Second, I left the camp because I realized there was no way to get money out, the one hotel was too expensive to finance even one night, and some drunk lady started swinging a beer bottle at me when I refused to give her money. A little different story.
Love you all, I’m safe and more importantly, staying smart.
Stacey
I’ve been reading up as I’ve been able. Glad to hear that you’re safe! Stay that way. :-/
